Lucas Cranach detto il Vecchio (Kronach, 1472 - Weimar, 16 ottobre 1553) e stato un pittore tedesco rinascimentale. Il suo toponimico deriva dalla citta natale. Fu uno dei principali interpreti della scuola danubiana e della Riforma luterana nell'arte. Il suo stile e caratterizzato da una linea grafica ed elegante, che si allunga in forme quasi stilizzate andando a ripescare nel repertorio del tardo gotico, attualizzandolo e facendone qualcosa di nuovo.
